Ferriday High School will play perhaps its most challenging home game of the year next week when it hosts No. 2 Rayville.

On Tuesday night, the No. 3 Trojans maintained the anticipation of the highly touted matchup.

Ferriday poured in 10 3-pointers en route to storming past Ouachita Christian 88-41 in boys basketball action.

“We shot the ball extremely well,” Ferriday coach K.G. Watkins said. “In most cases, I’d be very satisfied, but in a situation like tonight, I would have felt much better if we ran our offense a lot more and used (the game) like a practice.”

The Trojans (16-5, 4-1) were in complete control from start to finish, dominating inside and out.

Ferriday connected on two 3-pointers in the first quarter, but picked it up in the second and third periods after drilling seven 3-point makes.

Carlos Collins led the Trojans with 19 points, while Jer’Lyric Brooks had 18. Marquell Griffin chipped in with 15 points, including four 3-pointers. Collins made three 3-pointers.

“I told them at halftime, if you live by the 3, you can die by the 3,” Watkins said. “It’s a good win. We’ll see where it goes from here.”

The Trojan starters led the charge through three-and-a-half quarters before the reserves took over.

“It was a good chance for a learning experience to get some guys on the floor,” Watkins said. “I did not want to take a chance on some of these (starters) getting hurt, so we shut them down early.”

Ferriday has one more contest on the road Friday at General Trass before returning home to face the Hornets (20-5, 4-0) Jan. 31. Rayville defeated Ferriday Jan. 13, 92-61.

“We don’t want to overlook anybody, but we want Rayville,” Watkins said. “We have five games left, and we have to take them one at a time. We have to take of our business (at General Trass). But it’s going to be interesting next week … I sure want Rayville. I want Rayville.”

Shanique Hillard and Anasia Turner each scored 14 points to lead Ferriday past district rival Ouachita Christian in girls action.

The Lady Trojans (13-8, 3-2) received scoring efforts from 12 separate players, with seven players scoring at least six points.

“That’s important. That’s huge for us,” Ferriday coach Lisa Abron said. “Down the stretch, we’re going to need every leg, every arm we can get to get out there and contribute to a win.”

Ferriday used its speed and quickness to force Ouachita Christian into a slew of turnovers, resulting in a flurry of layups on the other end.

“We’re trying to utilizing our (press) now, so when we get to our major games, we can go ahead and use it then,” Abron said. “It worked out for us pretty well.”

The Lady Trojans will be back in action Friday at General Trass.

“We’re on the right track,” Abron said.
