WILDSVILLE — Services for Bessie Grace Crooks Jernigan, 93, of Wildsville, who died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at her home, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at  Evangaline Baptist Church with Rev. Ralph Webber, Brad Crooks and Curtis Smith officiating.

Burial will follow at Evangeline Baptist Church Cemetery in Wildsville under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Evangeline Baptist Church.

Bessie Jernigan was born Jan. 19, 1924, in Walters, La., the daughter of Frank and Martha Stevenson Crooks.

She was a devoted wife and mother whose life exemplified her faith and virtue. She was a member of Evangeline Baptist Church where she faithfully served the Lord for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of more than 60 years, Calvin Jernigan; one brother, N.D. Crooks; and four sisters, Hilda Watson, Allie Ware, Elsie Clark and Ora Brown.

Survivors include her son Jimmy Jernigan and wife, Sue Duck Jernigan, of Wildsville; granddaughter Kerri Jernigan McClure and husband, Charles McClure, of Tomball, Texas; grandson David Jernigan and wife, Kristie, of Haughton, La.; great-granddaughter Jessica McClure of Bryan, Texas; two great-grandsons, Brandon McClure of Tomball and Holt Benjamin Jernigan of Haughton; three sisters, Tiny Mize, Shirley Deville, both of Vidalia, and Lilly Windham of Wildsville; two brothers, Gerald Crooks of Amelia, La., and Ellis Crooks and wife, Francis, of Vidalia; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are Brandon McClure, Chuck Hardesty, Elbert McEntyre, Bobby Boyette, Ronnie Bruit and Jerry McEntyre.
