NATCHEZ — Services for Hardis Latrel Barnes, 62, of Dallas, formerly of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Dallas after a lengthy illness, will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Melrose Church of Christ with Michael Hoggatt officiating.
Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Mr. Barnes was born July 25, 1954, in Natchez, the son of Henry Lewis Barnes Sr. and Dora Barnes.
He was affectionately known to his family as Mickey and to others as Joe Snail and Mississippi. He accepted Christ at an early age and attended Melrose Church of Christ before moving to Dallas where he became a faithful member of Central Pointe Church of Christ under the leadership of Rodney Dulin until his death.
Mr. Barnes received his formal education from South Natchez High School class of 1972. Upon completing high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, earning an honorable discharge. He furthered his education at Copiah-Lincoln Community College and Jackson State University. He moved to Dallas and was employed by Sherman Williams. In 2016, he began his career at Kraft Foods.
Mickey was a family man and had a kind, caring and loving personality which enlarged his circle of friends. To know him was to love him. No one was a stranger to Mickey. Everyone that knew him, loved him. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Ivory Joe Barnes and Henry Barnes Jr.
