NATCHEZ — Graveside memorial services for Charles E. “Skip” Fatherree Jr., who died Feb. 18, 2017, at Promise Specialty Hospital in Vidalia, were Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, at the Natchez City Cemetery with the Rev. David O’Connor officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mr. Fatherree was born Aug. 5, 1938, in Natchez, the son of Charles Ernest Fatherree Sr. and Mildred Chaney Fatherree.
He was a retired field service engineer with Schlumberger Well Services. He was Catholic and attended St. Mary Basilica.
Mr. Fatherree was a 1956 graduate of Natchez High School where he played football. He also played on the local Little League baseball teams. He attended Mississippi State University in Starkville.
He enjoyed fishing and gardening and was well known for his wonderful tomatoes.
Mr. Fatherree loved watching football and other sports as well as the National Geographic channel. He loved his family and enjoyed showing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to garden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Charles Fatherree; and one sister, Carol F. Wallace.
Survivors include his wife of more than 60 years, Ruth Arrighi Fatherree; one son, David Hughes Fatherree and wife, Debi; two daughters, Margaret Hall and husband, David, and Ellen Garden and husband, Prentiss; eight grandchildren, Katie Luckey and husband, Parker, Hannah Fatherree, Bobby Fatherree, Olivia Jones, John Michael Burns, Laura Lundstrom and husband, Jon, Mallory Ainsworth and husband Ryan, and Mary Ellen Gardner; six great-grandchildren, Vivi Kate Jones, Audrey Burns, Carter Ainsworth, Eli Ainsworth, Ashton Ainsworth and Knox Ainsworth; one sister, Vicki Jordan and husband, James; a number of nieces and nephews; and members of the Kaiser, Zuccaro, Byrne and Wingfield families.
Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, American Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
