NATCHEZ — A mass of Christian burial for Dorothy Stone Green, 83, of Madison, who died peacefully the evening of Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, where she had lived since leaving Atlanta in 2012, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at St. Mary Basilica.  02_22-dorothysgreen-obitpic
Visitation will be 9 a.m. at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Laird Funeral Home in Natchez.
Mrs. Green was born Oct. 10, 1933, in Natchez, the oldest child of August Joseph Stone and Dorothy St. John Stone.
She was a lifelong Catholic, first at St. Mary’s, then later at Christ the King in Atlanta.
She was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Natchez and attended Barry College in Miami.
In 1954, she married Walter Green of Natchez and they moved to Atlanta shortly thereafter. While in Atlanta, she was employed by Harcourt, Brace and World Publishing Company.
Mrs. Green loved spending time with her husband and their seven children, and later 14 grandchildren. She enjoyed flowers and creating beautiful arrangements using the flowers from her garden. Her favorite flowers came from her cherished grand magnolia tree which she loved so much she moved the front entry walk four time rather than cutting the tree back. She enjoyed family vacations at Pawley’s Island and Litchfield Beach, S.C., as well as playing bridge and attending Ole Miss football games.
Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Walter G. Green Jr. and two sons, Wes Green and Tom Green.
Survivors include four sons, Walter Green and wife, Lynne, of Madison; Benton Green and wife, Debbie, of Roswell, Ga.; Hance Green and wife, Betsy, of Ridgeland; and Stoney Green and wife, Anne, of Atlanta, Ga.; one daughter, Britton Green Weber and husband, Skip, of Long Beach, Calif.; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Green of Germantown, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren, Josh Green and wife, Leigh, of Oxford; Aubrey Green of Madison; Susannah Green of Atlanta; Paige Weber of Portland, Ore.; Trey Weber of Long Beach; Benton Green and wife, Lauren, of Atlanta; Alyssa Green Steelman and husband, Pat, of Atlanta; Dori and Callon Green, both of Germantown; Maggie, Mary Britton and Eliza Green, all of Atlanta; Mary Brett and Wes Green, both of Ridgeland; two sisters, Bee Byrnes of Natchez and Audley Karrasch of Houston; and one brother, Sonny Stone of Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Catherine’s Village Foundation or to a charity of choice.
