NATCHEZ — Services for Charles David “Monkey” Smith, 87, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at his residence, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Emergency Fallout Shelter behind Rite Aid and beside Natchez High School.
Services will be under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith was born Jan. 20, 1930, the son of Phillip Smith and Bessie Halford Smith.
He retired from Armstrong Tire Company. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of more than 50 years, Ruth Alee Smith; one daughter, Shannon Downs Nettles; one grandson, Cameron David Smith; and one sister, Helen Harrigill.
Survivors include daughter, Debora Garden and husband, Jerry of Vero Beach, Fla.; two sons, Walter David Smith of Natchez and Adam Smith of Kansas City; brother, P.C. Smith and wife, Christine; half sister, Joyce Hendley of Natchez; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
