VIDALIA — A Vidalia man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly abducting a woman in Concordia Parish and reportedly raping her in Tensas Parish.
Ronnie Reed Cupstid, 47, 115 East Cottondale Court, Vidalia, was charged with attempted second-degree murder, simple kidnapping, second-degree battery, felony criminal damage to property, aggravated assault and a probation and parole violation.
As the victim was stopped at a stop sign after dropping someone off at the perpetrator’s residence, Cupstid allegedly came up behind her in a truck and hit the vehicle the victim was driving with significant force, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy David Hedrick said.
Hedrick said Cupstid then reportedly pulled the victim out of her vehicle, assaulted her and put her in his truck where he took her to Tensas Parish and allegedly raped her.
Hedrick said he did not know where the alleged rape took place in Tensas Parish.
Hedrick said Cupstid returned to Concordia Parish to stop by Fred’s Wrecker Service to drop off a key.
When Cupstid allegedly got out of the truck, the victim reportedly took it and drove toward Lakeside Ford where she had seen a deputy vehicle parked, Hedrick said. She made contact with the deputy at 2:33 a.m.
Hedrick said Cupstid allegedly took off running after the victim as she was driving off. The deputy, Chris Goad, put himself in harm’s way and reportedly had to use force to stop Cupstid’s progress toward the victim, Hedrick said.
“I firmly believe that if my deputies had not been there this would have escalated into a terrible crime,” Hedrick said. “Thank God Chris Goad was there to save the day.
“There is no doubt in my mind Chris saved her life.”
Cupstid could face additional charges in Tensas Parish, Hedrick said.
Cupstid was in jail Thursday night with no bond set.
