William W. “Jack” Dallas

NATCHEZ — Services for William W. “Jack” Dallas, 87, of Natchez, who died Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Veterans Foster Medical Home in Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bo Swilley officiating.

Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Tuesday until time of service at the funeral home.

Mr. Dallas was born on Feb. 18, 1930 in Natchez, the son of Freely Skyles Dallas and Virginia B. Walton Dallas. “Jack” was named by his brother, Thomas, at birth, and was known by this name especially by his family.

He attended school in Natchez and graduated from Natchez High School. He attended Mississippi State University and Louisiana State University. Jack served in the National Guard and served in the 511th Aircraft Control Squadron stationed in Japan during the Korean War.

Mr. Dallas was employed with Armstrong Tire and Rubber and then started his own mechanic service of oilfield equipment where he worked in Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and New York. He started his electrical business, lighting the highways in Mississippi and was successful in all his efforts.

He was a hard worker and loved the people of Natchez. He never wanted to live anywhere else except Natchez, his hometown.

Since his family all lived in other places, he did not wish to leave Natchez. Prior to his illness, Jack attended Community Chapel Church on Morgantown Road. His wonderful friends have been a blessing to him and his family as they have been so wonderful to look after him. The family would especially like to express their love and appreciation to Nancy Mercer, Donald Shupe and Bernie Pyron for all the hours of support to family and to Mr. Dallas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters and his brother, Virginia Beatrice Dallas, Alice Sue Dallas, and Thomas A. Dallas, his uncles, Dr. William Walton of Tennessee, Dr. O.K. Walton and wife, Martha Quinn, of McComb, Odell Dallas of Oklahoma, Pat Dallas of Dallas and Fred Dallas of Tennessee.

Survivors include one sister: Martha Dallas Heard of Alice, Texas; one sister in law: Billye Haskin Dallas of Madison; one aunt: Inez Dallas of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five nephews and nieces: Walt Dallas and wife, Angela, Jennye Hilton and husband, Tommy, Sue Ellen Shepard and husband, Rob, of Madison, William B. Heard and wife, Yvonne of Alice, Texas, and Glen K. Heard and wife, Karen, of Miles, Texas; one great nieces: Casey H. Fischer and husband, Matthew, of Alice, Texas and Anna Shepard; six great nephews: Noel and Drew Hilton, Wilson and Luke Dallas, Grey and Dallas Shepard of Mississippi.

Pallbearers will be Mike Myers, Caleb Coldiron, Ken Allen, Bruce Bell, Jr., Greg Smith, and Danny Watts.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bernie Pyron and Donald Shupe.

Memorials may be made to Natchez Adams County Humane Society, Alzheimer’s Group, and the Santa Claus Parade or to charity of your choice.
