Once Delta Charter School’s softball team got going Thursday night it didn’t stop.

After going down two runs in the first inning, the Lady Storm tallied 14 total hits to pull out a victory over Georgetown, 11-3.

“I’m excited. That was a huge win for us,” DCS coach Jeannie Beach said. “A lot of times when there is a score in the first inning, you can feel everybody’s self esteem go down. It says a lot to not give up.”

Delta Charter scored one run in the bottom of the first and second to tie the game, 2-2, yet found its multiple-hit groove in the third.

The three-run inning was led off by a triple to right field from Makenzie Landers. The Lady Storm then took the lead for the first time on a sacrifice-RBI from Kaitlyn Dooley.

“We had some great base hits, and our small game was also on,” Beach said. “We had a lot of bunt situations that were great.”

Shauneisha Crumpton didn’t let the momentum stop there.

The senior third baseman launched a solo home run to center field, marking her third so far this year. She ended with two RBIs and two runs scored.

“It felt awesome,” Crumpton said. “When I hit it, I knew it was going out. I could just feel it.”

Delta Charter scored five more times in the sixth inning to secure the win, and Beach said she hopes the strong offense can continue throughout the season.

“We have to just keep playing well and scoring runs,” she said.

Jania Burns earned the win for DCS, pitching all seven innings. Giving up just one earned run, she struck out five batters.

“Jania pitched a really great game,” Beach said. “All of her pitches were working today.”

The Lady Storm had six multiple hitters on the night, led by Burns who went 3-4 with an RBI and one run. Shelbi McManus chipped in with four RBIs and a run.

Delta Charter (7-4) will remain at home to face Rayville at 5 p.m. Monday.
