FERRIDAY — Ferriday High School was cleared of a bomb threat Thursday afternoon.
Ferriday Police Department investigator Richard Madison said a bomb threat was called into the high school at approximately 1:30 p.m. and the campus was evacuated within 5 minutes.
Madison said Louisiana State Police and the Mississippi Highway Patrol assisted in clearing the campus of the bomb threat. The Mississippi Highway Patrol brought a bomb-sniffing dog, Madison said, and the campus was cleared of any threat by 4 p.m.
Concordia Parish School District Interim Superintendent Loretta Blankenstein said students and staff were evacuated by bus to the Ferriday Junior High School gym.
“We take every situation like that seriously,” Blankenstein said. “I would like to thank the Principal (Joyce) Russ, Assistant Principal (Ricky) Collins, Officer Rock Davis, Ferriday Police Department, Louisiana and Mississippi state police, the K-9 Unit, Mayor (Sherrie) Jacobs, Ferriday Junior High Principal Mrs. (Toyua) Watson, Durham School Services, Ferriday High School faculty, staff and students, for all of their efforts in keeping everyone safe.”
Blankenstein said testing is going on at Ferriday High School this week, but the testing period had concluded before the bomb threat was called in.
Madison said the bomb threat is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Madison at 318-757-3606.
