VIDALIA — Funeral services for Mrs. Lula “Lou” McWhorter Polk, 88, of Nashville, Tenn., formerly of Vidalia, who died Aug. 4, 2017 in Nashville, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Vidalia Presbyterian Church.
Burial will be Saturday at Oaklawn Cemetery in Centreville under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mrs. Polk was born on Oct. 29, 1928 in Chester, the daughter of James Lawrence McWhorter and Wrena Lucretia Hodges McWhorter.
Mrs. Polk graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Business in 1949. She and her family moved to Vidalia in 1959, where she was an active member of the Pilgrimage Garden Club and the Vidalia Presbyterian Church. She loved gardening, antiquing and entertaining.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James “Mac” McWhorter; three sisters, Jonnie McWhorter Butler, Elizabeth McWhorter Young and Mary McWhorter Smith; and her husband of 48 years, Dr. William “Doc” Thomas Polk Jr.
Survivors include two children, Margaret Ann Polk Simons and her husband, Lawrence Andrew Simons, of Nashville and William Thomas Polk III, also known as “Boyfriend,” and his significant other, Catherine Elodie Pritchartt, also known as “Girlfriend,” of Natchez; and two grandchildren, Margaret Victoria Hunt and William Felix Hunt Jr., of Nashville.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
