NATCHEZ — An alleged burglary ended with Natchez police officers chasing a subject on foot after he reportedly made a brief escape.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., Thursday, Natchez police responded to an alarm call at Corr-Williams Company, Inc., located at 301 Highland Blvd.

Arriving, officers reportedly saw a male subject, later identified as Phil Wilson, 38, 156 Morgantown Road, hiding on top of the facility’s roof.

Wilson, a former Corr-Williams employee, allegedly possessed tools to break into the facility, but police reported he was unable to steal anything.

An officer climbed a fence and scaled a truck parked alongside the roof to apprehend Wilson, police said.

After handcuffing and placing Wilson in a patrol car, the officers reportedly searched the area to ensure the scene was clear but returned to the patrol car to find that Wilson had somehow opened the window and crawled out.

Police then canvassed the area and found Wilson’s jacket and sweatshirt next to an empty building approximately 300 yards away from Corr-Williams.

Expanding the search, officers allegedly spotted Wilson in the Doctor’s Pavillion parking lot on Seargent S. Prentiss Drive. Willson, who police said had slipped one hand out of his cuffs, reportedly fled when officers approached.

Police said Wilson ran through the parking lot and through an unlocked door into an emergency area in an attempt to lose officers.

There, the chase ended and Wilson was apprehended. Officers then transported Wilson to the Natchez City Jail at approximately 1:40 a.m., Friday where he was charged with burglary, felony escape and possession of burglary tools.
