The Wilkinson County High School Wildcats will look to bounce back from a shutout loss to Natchez High School when they travel to take on the Amite County High School Trojans at 7 p.m. Friday.
Wilkinson County struggled against MHSAA Class 5A Natchez High last week in the 39-0 defeat, and head coach Kenneth Brown said that both the offensive and defensive lines have to play better this week.
The Wildcats were held to 66 total yards of offense and four first downs while their defense gave up 361 yards and 19 first downs.
“(We’re working on) trying to be a little more physical, being more active, being more involved and being more aggressive,” Brown said.
This week, Brown said no decision has been made yet whether to stick with Trevion Miles or have Freddie Byrd as the starting quarterback.
“We’re trying to see who gives us the best possibility of moving the ball. Both quarterbacks showed some promise. We’ll just see how the week goes,” he said.
Getting their first win of the 2017 season, however, may not be easy for the Wildcats against Class 2A Amite County.
The Trojans are coming off a 28-20 win against East Marion.
Brown said the biggest challenge the Trojans present is their size — and not just on the line.
“They have a couple of tall receivers that go about 6-3, 6-4. That could be a problem. They like to throw the deep ball, so hopefully we can cover them,” Brown said.
