South Delta tops Jefferson County, 32-12

The MHSAA Class 2A South Delta Bulldogs scored 20 points in the third quarter to open up a close game as they defeated the Class 3A Jefferson County High School Tigers 32-12 Friday night.

South Delta junior quarterback Jacobeyon Lane threw four touchdown passes – two to Wesley Jennings, one to Caleb Ducking, and one to Keijuan Moore. Ducking also had a 33-yard interception return for a touchdown during the Bulldogs’ big third quarter

Jefferson County opened the scoring on a 2-yard touchdown run by Dominique Gaines. However, the Tigers’ offense bogged down after that and they couldn’t slow down the Bulldogs’ passing game.

The Tigers didn’t score again until there was 9:42 to go in the game on a 35-yard run by Lazarius Pinder. Gailronte Fells was just 2-for-17 passing for 27 yards with one interception.

Jefferson County (1-3) hosts Class 6A Terry High School at 7 p.m. next Friday.
