ACCS senior demonstrates leadership, versatility for squad

Adams County Christian School’s Kacie Guedon understands her role on the Lady Rebels’ soccer team goes well beyond the field.

With just a handful of familiar faces returning this season, the senior said responsibility to help the younger players grow has been placed on her shoulders.

“We only have three returning players from last year,” Guedon said. “Some don’t know what a handball is. They don’t know how to shoot a penalty kick. They don’t know how to throw the ball in. It’s been a training year. If somebody is doing something wrong, you have to step up and show them the right form.”

ACCS coach Jim Bob Allgood said Guedon has been more than up to the task this season.

“She is one of the driving forces that helps us run,” he said.

Allgood said his team is currently in a “major rebuild,” and leaders such as Guedon will help the reconstruction process run smoothly.

“Rebuilding sometimes is fun,” he said. “I remember these days many years ago when we didn’t have the foot skills — the passing and trapping — but from July 7 to today, we have improved drastically.”

And on Wednesday, the Rebels saw all their hard work come to fruition as it topped Discovery Christian, 5-0.

Not only has Guedon served as an instrumental voice for her squad, but she’s also demonstrated strong versatility. The do-it-all athlete has split time at multiple positions for the Lady Rebels, spending time at both goalie and in the field.

“Goalie is a little bit boring,” Guedon said, laughing. “You wait until the action comes to you, and then it’s just one second and it’s done. But when you’re in the field, you’re just chasing (the ball). You never really stop in the field. At goalie, you see everyone downfield, and you think, ‘Gosh, I wish I was out there.’”

But with Guedon’s skills between the post, she provides much added value, evidenced by a strong performance earlier this year against Laurel Christian School.

“I blocked like 26 shots,” Guedon said. “Then I was set at goalie.”

But Guedon said it ultimately doesn’t matter where she plays, so long as her team comes out on top.

“I like when we win,” Guedon said. “But if they score one goal on me, then I hate goalie. I want to be something else.

“I just try to be a good leader and always hustle.”

Guedon plans on attending Mississippi State next fall. She is the daughter of Jenny and Frank Guedon.

Guedon and the Lady Rebels will be back in action on Monday when they Parklane Academy.
