Rescue highlights good news

Even though the heat and humidity of summer returned for a brief visit, fall is not far behind. As we look forward to the return of cool nights and autumn leaves, let us look at some good news from last week:
- When Ron BeQuette heard the report of an accident on Cranfield Road, the Adams County resident sprung to action. Listening to the police scanner report the news of a car flipped over and on fire approximately a mile from his house, BeQuette knew he could get to the scene of the accident faster than local emergency personnel. When he reached the scene, BeQuette and another man helped rescue one of the victims. Civilians and emergency personnel helped get the second victim out of the car. Thanks to BeQuette for his quick thinking and to all who assisted in the rescue.
- Natchez resident Kenneth Watson was also recently honored for his quick thinking when he used CPR to help resuscitate his wife in January. The Natchez Transit worker used CPR training he learned on the job when his wife collapsed in his arms. Natchez Mayor Darryl Grennell and the board of aldermen commended Watson and encouraged others to learn this life-saving technique.
- Natchez sophomore Darren Smith has already played in some of the world’s greatest orchestra halls. This summer the local violinist played at the Sydney Opera House in Australia as part of the High School Performance Series Orchestra. The year before, Smith played with the orchestra at Carnegie Hall, and he has his sights set on playing in South America with the Mississippi Youth Symphony Orchestra. Congratulations to Smith for all of his accomplishments.
Let us remember thank those who continue to make our community great.
