The Jefferson County High School Tigers put a stop to a three-game losing streak with a 16-15 homecoming win over the Wilkinson County High School Wildcats in MHSAA Region 7-3A action Friday night.
After Lazarius Pinder scored on a 20-yard run late in the first quarter, it looked like Wilkinson County (3-4, 1-1) had the momentum on its side after scoring nine straight points in the third quarter to grab a 9-8 lead.
But the Tigers responded when Dominique Gaines scored on a three-yard run and Pinder added the 2-point conversion run for a 16-9 lead with 3:59 to go.
However, the Wildcats would not go away quietly. Freddie Byrd III scored on a one-yard run with 24 seconds left, but the pass on the 2-point conversion try fell incomplete.
Jefferson County (2-5, 1-1) is off next Friday before playing at Hazlehurst on Oct. 20. Wilkinson County (3-4, 1-1) hosts Hazlehurst for Senior Night next Friday at 7 p.m.
