FERRIDAY — Services for Dr. Herman Gibson Jr., 92, of Ferriday, who died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at his residence surrounded by loved ones, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday with the Rev. Clyde Ray Webber officiating.

Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Whitehall under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Dr. Gibson was born Oct. 26, 1924, in Clayton, the son of Herman and Carrie Clayton Gibson.

In World War II, Dr. Gibson served in France and Germany in the Army Medical Corps.  After the War, Herman graduated medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans. He established the Gibson Clinic in Ferriday, where he practiced for 62 years. During this time, he received multiple Lifetime Achievements Awards from Louisiana Rural Health Association and was a treasure to his community. If there was an award for deliveries, he would have been at the top of the list.

He also served as Mayor of Clayton, Coroner and Chief of Staff at Concordia Parish Hospital.

In addition to those accomplishments, he was an artist, author, craftsmen, musician, a great dancer, an avid fisherman, fond of traveling the West and a member of the Ferriday riding club.

Dr. Gibson was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Clayton Gibson; his sister-in-law, Lounez James Gibson; and his first wife, Mary Huggens Gibson.

Survivors include his son, Dr. Herman Gibson III and his wife, Claire; his two grandchildren, Cody Gibson and Allison Andrepont and her husband, Derek; his great grandchild, Sy Andrepont; his second wife, Dr. Mary Bradford Gibson; children, Angela Kirkland and husband, Steven, and Lily Wilson and husband, Ronnie; grandchildren Stephanie Wright and her husband, Jeff, Heathcliffe Hailey and wife, Angel, and Chasi Hailey-Malone and husband, Christopher; his great grandchild, Cameron Malone; niece, Anna Whittington and husband, Sam, and nephews Clayton Gibson Jr., Mark Gibson and wife, Kris, and Neal Gibson and honorary nephew, Jon Garner, as well as multiple great nieces and nephews; cousins, Jim Sullivan, Pasty Sullivan Goltry, Carolee Clayton Smith, Diane Clayton Martin and Larry Clayton.

Pallbearers will be Clayton Gibson Jr., Neal Gibson, Mark Gibson, Jon Garner, Heathcliffe Hailey, Chris Malone, Cameron Malone and Jeff Wright.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. William (Billy) Coney, Dr. Huey Moak, Dr. Phillip Crace, Dr. Robert Freedmen Jr. and Dr. Ulla J. Ule.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the constant and steady care of Camellia Hospice, with love to Penny, Angie and Angela. Extended appreciation is also offered to Pat and Von Crook and Suzanne Routon.
