Charline Stowers Coco

AUSTIN, Texas — A celebration of life service for Charline Stowers Coco, 79, who died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, in Austin, will be Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 78705.
Charline was born Aug. 17, 1938, in Annona, Texas, the daughter of Millard and Grace Morrison.
She lived in Daingerfield, Texas, and attended high school at Annona High School. She later attended the University of Alabama and the University of Houston with a degree in psychology. She retired from the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services after more than 30 years of state service in Houston and Austin. Charline served as an investigator, public information officer, agency custodian of records and manager of the Consumer Rights and Services Division.
Charline married John Caleb Stowers in 1959, and they had two children, John and Jean Christina. They lived together in Las Cruces, N.M., Huntsville, Ala., and eventually relocated to Clear Lake City, Texas, in 1965. She moved to Austin in 1983. She married Vincent Joseph Coco in 1987.
Charline was an avid reader and loved shopping sales at clothing, pawn shops and mall shops. In addition to caring for her beloved granddaughter, Charline loved to spend time with family at the beach and traveling to Europe.
Charline was preceded in death by her parents; one son, John Caleb Stowers V; one daughter, Jean Christina Stowers; one sister, Mavis Kennedy; one brother, Phil Morrison; and John Caleb Stowers.
Survivors include her husband, Vincent Joseph Coco; one daughter, Kimberly Coco Zamora and husband, Rene; one granddaughter, Kristina Coco Zamora; two sisters, Marilou Morrison and Rita Nix; one brother, John Morrison and wife, Kay; six nieces, Dina Kenemore, Samantha Hubbs, Denise Everett, Julie Johnson, Kellie Nix and Vickie Williams; and two nephews, Phillip Morrison and Kyle Nix.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Austin (hospiceaustin.org) or the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
