NATCHEZ — One southern district justice court judge candidate turned in his report a day late on Wednesday, and another candidate turned in his itemized disbursements.

On the deadline for the campaign finance report of receipts and disbursements for the Nov. 7 special election, judge candidate Danny Barber was the only who failed to turn in the paperwork on time, and judge candidate Jack Blaney turned in a new document listing $6,564.19 in itemized disbursements.

Blaney had listed the disbursements as non-itemized previously. Candidates are not required to itemize receipts or disbursements less than $201.

Barber said Wednesday missing the deadline was inadvertent.

“I had been out campaigning, and I flat forgot about it,” Barber said. “It is funny because I had already filled out the forms in advance.”

Barber signed the document dated Oct. 29, but the circuit clerk’s office does not note it received until Nov. 1.

Barber has received $2,750 in receipts and has spent $3,379.34.

Barber received $2,500 from Magnolia Bluffs Casino Hotel of Natchez and $250 from Natchez Heating and Cooling Inc.

Barber spent $599.97 with Super Cheap Signs of Austin, Texas, $1,197.80 with Natchez Printing, $1,431.57 with the U.S. Postal Service and $150 with Susan DeBask graphics design of Natchez.

Blaney said he had been told at the courthouse since he self-financed his campaign, he was not required to list disbursements as itemized since the primary concern is who is contributing to the campaign.

“I did not want it to seem like I was doing anything shady, so I went back and got (the document) stamped,” Blaney said. “This is my first election, and I am just trying to cross all of my T’s and dot all of my I’s.”

Blaney yesterday listed $6,564.19 as non-itemized receipts. On Wednesday, the updated form lists $6,564.19 as itemized disbursements.

Blaney spent $3,150 with Natchez Screen Printing T-Shirts LLC, $805.14 with Smith Printing and Office Supply of Natchez, $105 with Adams County, $30.05 with Home Hardware Center of Natchez, $1,150 with Ketco Advertising Specialties of Natchez, $1,044 with Southern Signs of Natchez and $280 with Vista Print of Venlo, Netherlands.

Timothy Blalock, Eileen Mary Maher and Stanley N. “Bucky” Merritt are also running for justice court judge for the southern district.

Bryan Callaway, Shameca Collins and Scott Pintard are running for county prosecutor.

The last day to absentee vote in person for the Nov. 7 election is Saturday. The circuit clerk’s office will be open from 8 a.m. to noon.
