Centreville Academy falls in semifinals, 33-14

Centreville Academy had a nine-game winning streak snapped, while subsequently falling out of the MAIS Class AA playoffs Friday night with a 33-14 loss to St. Joseph-Greenville.

The Fighting Irish shut out the Tigers in the second half, while scoring 19 points of their own to secure the semifinal win after a 14-14 tie at halftime.

Stone Reynolds led Centreville, rushing for two touchdowns on runs of 3 and 18 yards. He ended the game with 31 carries for 179 yards.

St. Joseph’s Dillon Johnson caught a 10-yard pass from Brice Johnson to open scoring in the game with 6:49 remaining in the first quarter.

Johnson also added a 15-yard scoring run midway through the fourth quarter to end the night with two touchdowns.

Jamie Robinson added two touchdowns of his own for the Fighting Irish, finding the end zone on an 85-yard punt return and also a 13-yard run.

Coleton Peterson and Daniel Vine led the Centreville defense with eight tackles apiece, while Haze Green added six.

Despite the loss, Centreville matched up statistically with St. Joseph, ending with 14 first downs opposed to 12. The Tigers rushed for 248 yards compared to 277 for the Fighting Irish.

The Tigers end their season with a record of 10-3.

St. Joseph (11-2) is scheduled to play in the MAIS Class AA state championship at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Jackson Academy.
