Wilson was reportedly not wearing a seat belt when he slowed his vehicle to avoid a collision with a car in front of him making a left turn.

The vehicle behind him, a 1996 Jeep Cherokee operated by Marshall Davis, 60, of Vidalia, did not slow and struck Wilson’s truck in the rear, causing the vehicle to run down an embankment and roll over at least once, Louisiana State Police reports say.

Wilson was reportedly ejected from the car as it cascaded down the bank, where an Acadian Ambulance found him before transporting him to West Feliciana Parish Hospital in St. Francisville.

Wilson was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Davis’ Jeep came to rest in the center median of U.S. 61. Davis and the three passengers inside the vehicle reported only mild to moderate injuries and were transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge.

Louisiana State Police began investigating the crash at approximately 7 p.m. Friday.

Louisiana State Police said Saturday they did not know why Davis did not slow his vehicle when Wilson did, and that the impairment of both parties is currently unknown.

A routine toxicology sample from both Wilson and Davis will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
