Albert Quitman Newell

NATCHEZ — Services for Albert Quitman Newell, 82, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at his residence, will be held at 11 a.m. today at Washington Baptist Church with Bro. Carl Smith officiating.

Burial will follow services Monday at the church under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to service time at the church on Monday.

Mr. Newell was born Aug. 5, 1935, the son of John and Emma Ruth Newell, in Crystal Springs.

Mr. Newell was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Washington Baptist Church and was happily married to the love of his life, Letha, for 54 years. They gave life to three sons, whom he loved dearly. He was a proud Pawpaw to his grandchildren and his great-grandson. Mr. Newell enjoyed watching the Louisiana State University Tigers, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed sharing his many life stories with his family and treasured friends. And he loved his dogs, Missy Ann and Spike. Mr. Newell lived a beautiful life for 82 years. He faced everything like a man all through his life to the very end.

He was a rich man in the way he loved life and lived it.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, three brothers and one grandson, Cody Alan  Newell.

He is survived by his wife, Letha Thornton Newell; three sons: Albert Louis Newell, Keith Edward Newell and Chris Alan Newell; five grandchildren: Jessica Newell Lindstrom and husband, Matt, Brittany Newell and husband, Joe, Becca Latham, Zachary Collier and Jonathan Newell; great grandson, Joseph Ezra Sumrall; and sisters Caroline Boutwell and Katie Boyte.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Bryant, Ronnie Bryant, Earl Bryant, Bruce Thornton, Byron Thornton and Joe Sumrall.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the special care and support given by Camelia Hospice and Caring River Cancer Care.
