NATCHEZ — Services for Ann Lum Ballew, 88, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, at Merit Health Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Cody Warren and Lee Jones officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Friday in Stratton Chapel at the church.

Mrs. Ballew was born June 10, 1929, in Vicksburg, the daughter of John Hamilton Lum and Annie Louise McBroom Lum.

She was a 1947 graduate of Natchez High School and a 1951 graduate of the University of Mississippi. She had degrees in both business and political science. While in college, she was a member of Chi Omega sorority and president of Mortar Board Honorary among other campus organizations. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and had served as deacon and elder of her church. She was a member of the Natchez Garden Club, Natchez Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, First Families of Mississippi and the Mississippi Cattleman’s Association. She helped build and operated Natchez Stockyard with her husband, Gene, for a number of years. Later, she was a bookkeeper for a number of Natchez businesses and was docent at antebellum homes.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Dorris Eugene Ballew.

Survivors include four daughters, Ann Carlton and husband, Kinney, Lisa Freeman and Jeannie Ballew, all of Natchez, and Susan Cummins and husband, Jamie, of Meadville; 12 grandchildren, Ashley Cummins Browning, Amy Cummins Johnson, Dr. Tyler Cummins, Paige Carlton Carter, Dr. John Carlton, Steven Freeman, Preston Freeman, Leigh Freeman, Kendra Hinson Warren, Megan Hinson, Taylor Hinson and Britton Hinson Jones; and 15 great-grandchildren, Campbell and Carson Browning, Coleman, Harper and Mary Collins Carter, Caroline, Grant, and Kate Carlton, Ella True, Jaxon and Ann Parker Warren, Wesson Johnson, Presleigh and Brayden Moffett and Camden Isbell.

Pallbearers will be John Carlton, Tyler Cummins, Steve Freeman, Preston Freeman, Taylor Hinson, David Carter, David Browning, Chad Johnson, Cody Warren and Lee Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kinney Carlton, Jamie Cummins, Danny Rollins, Rut Horne and Everette Ratcliffe.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Natchez.
