NATCHEZ — Services for Phillip “Phil” Grays Jr., 91, of Detroit, who died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, will be 11 a.m. Friday at King Solomon Baptist Church.     

Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Church Funeral Services in Baton Rouge.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Mr. Grays was born Sept. 15, 1926, in Natchez, the son of Phillip Grays Sr. and Margaret Lockett.

He was baptized at an early age at the Wilderness Baptist Church.

Mr. Grays served in the U.S. Army with honors. He retired from General Motors in 1989.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Henry L. Grays; one grandson, Michael L. Grays; two brothers, George Grays and James Bernard Grays; and four sisters, Margaret Grays, Laura Grays, Octavia Grays Robertson and Amelia Whittening.

Survivors include one sister, Clara Bell Gaylor of Natchez; two daughters, Margaret E. Grays and husband, Donald, of Baton Rouge and Mary Taylor of Natchez; two sons, James Grays of Woodville and Robert E. Grays of Natchez; and one stepdaughter, Shirley Washington of Natchez.
