NATCHEZ — Community Chapel Church of God, located at 100 Oakland Drive off Morgantown Road, will host a Singspiration at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the church’s old sanctuary building.

Bruce Bell Jr., one of the event organizers, said the church has been doing these events for as long as he can remember.

“We don’t really have an organized group,” Bell said. “We just all get together and make sure all of the music works and sing.”

The singing, which is open to the public, consists of members of the church ranging in age who select their songs, get their music and perform for the congregation. However, the Rev. Bo Swilley said anyone is welcome to participate.

“We really don’t have anyone performing from outside of the church right now,” Swilley said. “But, if they decided they want to, they can come to the church around 3 p.m. Sunday and bring their music and we would be happy to have them.”

The idea behind the event is fellowship, Swilley said.

Some of the youngest performers are eager to take the stage this Sunday.

Three of the youngest performers, Ava McDonald, 12; Kaylee Richardson, 10 and Lilly McDonald, 6, are all excited to be singing Sunday.

All three girls have sung in church before and all are looking forward to performing in front of members of their church as well as any guests.

“I am not scared,” Richardson said. “I am comfortable.”

The McDonald sisters, Ava and Lilly, both hope their songs will help bring someone closer to the Lord.

There are still more members of the church who will be singing, including Ava and Lilly’s mother, Holly McDonald.

“We just really enjoy having these events,” Bell said. “We typically have them every month there is a fifth Sunday. This one would have actually been in December, but the holiday got us off schedule.”

The church looks to host a few more singings this year as there are four months this year with a fifth Sunday.

Anyone in the community is welcome to attend. The event usually lasts roughly two hours.
