Prep roundup: Lady Green Wave, Rebels notch district wins

The Cathedral Lady Green Wave turned to its defense in the second half to pull away from a pesky Central Private School team in a 47-23 victory over the Rebels Tuesday night in the MAIS District 5-AAA opener for both teams.

Led by Anna Dale and Danielle Loftstrom, Central Private stayed within striking distance of Cathedral in the first half. The Lady Green Wave was only up 8-5 after one quarter and 21-15 at halftime. Dale and Loftstrom each finished with eight points to lead the Lady Rebels.

However, the second half was a different story as the Lady Green Wave turned up the defensive pressure. Cathedral outscored Central Private 13-2 in the third quarter and 13-6 in the fourth quarter. Caroline Kaiser ended with a game-high 17 points while Lessley Dooley and Hailey Ellis had eight points apiece to lead the Lady Green Wave.

Cathedral (18-4, 1-0) plays host to district opponent Silliman Institute at 6 p.m. Thursday.

ACCS 54, Silliman Institute 47

CLINTON, La. — After getting off to a fast start, the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels held on for a 54-47 win over the Silliman Institute Lady Wildcats in the MAIS District 5-AAA opener for both teams Tuesday night.

ACCS jumped out to a 24-6 lead over Silliman at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Wildcats responded by outscoring the Lady Rebels 13-7 in the second quarter and 23-15 in the third quarter to cut just four points, 46-42, heading into the fourth quarter.

Both teams struggled to get into an offensive rhythm in the final eight minutes, but the Lady Rebels did just enough to pull out the win by outscoring the Lady Wildcats 8-5.

Brianna Henson had 15 points, while Lexie Emanuel poured in 14 points and Caitlyn Gamberi added 12 points for the Lady Rebels.

ACCS (8-6, 1-0) plays host to district and cross-town rival Cathedral at 6 p.m. Friday.

Pearl 89, Natchez High 51

PEARL — Olivia Mosley led Pearl High School, one of the top teams in MHSAA Class 6A, with a game-high 23 points as the Lady Pirates cruised to an 89-51 win over the Class 5A Natchez High Lady Bulldogs Tuesday night.

Mosley was one of four players to score in double figures for Pearl, which dominated Natchez High throughout the first half. The Lady Pirates led the Lady Bulldogs 25-9 after one quarter of play and 54-20 at halftime. Amyra Sanders scored 13 points while Ashlynn Horne and Olivia Knight had 10 points each.

Candi Gray led the Lady Bulldogs with 19 points, but she was only player for Natchez to end in double figures. Kya Singleton finished with eight points.

Natchez High (9-10) returns to MHSAA Region 6-5A action at 6 p.m. Friday when its hosts Brookhaven High School.

Jefferson County 47, Franklin County 44

MEADVILLE — Dea’Breaun Turner gave Jefferson County some much-needed scoring with post player Antrell Gales being held in check as the Lady Tigers held on for a 47-44 win over the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs in MHSAA Region 7-3A action Tuesday night.

Turner led all scorers with 19 points while Kailyn Hammett had 13 points, seven assists, five steals and four rebounds. Gales was held to just six points.

Jefferson County had a 9-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, but went into halftime trailing Franklin County 22-19. The Lady Tigers then outscored the Lady Bulldogs 14-11 in both the third and fourth quarters to take the comeback win on the road.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Autumn Covington with 18 points. Jasmine Treadway had 12 points, and Polu Harris added 11 points.

Jefferson County (17-3, 2-1) hosts Hazlehurst at 6 p.m. Thursday. Franklin County (N/A, 1-2) plays at Port Gibson at 6 p.m. Friday.

Delta Charter 59, St. Frederick 35

FERRIDAY — Kierra Neal and Cloi Cummings each had a double-double as the Delta Charter School Lady Storm defeated the St. Frederick Lady Warriors 59-35 in an LHSAA District 2-1A game Tuesday night.

Neal finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Cummings had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Shyvlie Blaney stepped up as well with 15 points.

Delta Charter trailed St. Frederick 21-14 at halftime, but the Lady Storm took it to the Lady Warriors in the second half — 22-4 in the third quarter and 23-10 in the fourth quarter.

Delta Charter (16-10, 6-3) travels to St. Joseph, La. to take on district foe Tensas High School at 6 p.m. Friday.

Monterey 60, Grace Christian 49

MONTEREY — The Monterey Lady Wolves countered a 34-point performance by Grace Christian School’s Chaney Hartgrove with a balanced scoring attack in a 60-49 win over the Lady Warriors Tuesday night in the LHSAA District 5-B opener for both teams.

Andy Gray led Monterey with 17 points while Sara Beard had 11 points. Avery Cupit added 10 points and Allie Lipsey chipped in with eight points. The Lady Wolves outscored Grace Christian in each of the first three quarter to open up a commanding 44-26 lead.

Monterey (18-7, 1-0) plays host to district rival Oak Hill at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Rayville 69, Vidalia 17

RAYVILLE, La. — Jalexis Kelly led four Rayville players in double figures with 15 points as the Lady Hornets cruised to a 69-17 win over the Vidalia Lady Vikings in an LHSAA District 2-2A game Tuesday night.

Shamari Franklin and Tashunna Neal had 12 points apiece and Mykiya Wilson added 10 points for Rayville, which led Vidalia 16-7 after one quarter of play. Jamya Smith led the Lady Vikings with five points.

Vidalia (4-17, 0-5) hosts district foe Beekman Charter School at 6 p.m. Friday.
