Prep roundup: Natchez High Lady Bulldogs fall, Ferriday girls win

A rough first quarter offensively was too much for Natchez High School to overcome as the Lady Bulldogs lost to the Brookhaven High School Lady Panthers 58-50 in an MHSAA Region 6-5A game Friday night.

Natchez High had a hard time getting shots to fall in the game’s first eight minutes and trailed Brookhaven 12-6 by quarter’s end. The Lady Bulldogs cut the lead to four points at halftime, but the Lady Panthers outscored them 15-11 in the third quarter for a 38-30 lead.

Aja Carter led the Lady Bulldogs with a game-high 19 points and Candi Gray added 18 points. Silentianna Collins led Brookhaven, which is still undefeated in Region 6-5A, with 15 points while Tamia Stallings poured in 12 points and Ayanna McNairy chipped in with 11 points.

Natchez High (9-11, 1-3) travels to Jackson to take on Forest Hill in a key region matchup at 6 p.m. next Tuesday.

Ferriday 53, General Trass 21

LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. — Tierra Spurs led Ferriday High School with a game-high 17 points and Pacha Poole had 15 points as the Lady Trojans took care of the General Trass Lady Panthers 53-21 Friday night in an LHSAA District 2-2A game.

Leading just 12-8 after one quarter of play, Ferriday turned up the defensive pressure over the next two quarters and that allowed the Lady Trojans to pull away for the lopsided victory. They outscored General Trass 14-4 in the second quarter and 16-4 in the third quarter for a decisive 42-16 advantage.

Ferriday (20-5, 7-2) plays host to district and Concordia Parish rival Vidalia High School at 6 p.m. next Tuesday.

Oak Hill 48, Monterey 33

MONTEREY — The Oak Hill High School Lady Rams dominated Monterey High throughout the first half en route to a 48-33 win over the Lady Wolves Friday night in LHSAA District 5-B action.

Oak Hill simply had too much firepower for Monterey to keep up. The Lady Rams jumped out to a 19-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and when halftime arrived, they had a commanding 32-13 lead over the Lady Wolves.

Peyton Townley led the Lady Rams with 15 points and Lola Desprets added 12 points. Sara Beard finished with 12 points and Allie Lipsey had eight points to lead the Lady Wolves.

Monterey (18-8, 1-1) plays at Glenmora next at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
