NATCHEZ — Services for Amanda Davis Screws, 87, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, at Merit Health Central in Jackson, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Schiele officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mrs. Screws was born Jan. 11, 1931, in Bude, the daughter of Albert Davis and Evelyn Davis.
She was a graduate of Alcorn State University and a retired teacher from Wilkinson County School District.
Mrs. Screws was a member of Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, word search puzzles, online shopping and most of all, being with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Screws; her parents; two children, Melvin and Barbara Screws; and two brothers, Robert L. Davis and James C. Davis.
Survivors include five daughters, Wanda Gomes of Denver; Ava Clarice Screws of Natchez, Charlita Screws Cloman of Madison, Shelia Screws Jenkins and husband, Mike, and Bridget G. Conner of Baton Rouge; two brothers, Charles Wright and wife, Cora, and John Wayne Davis, all of Natchez; one sister, Cheryl Davis Bradford; daughter-in-law, Hattie Marie Screws, both of Natchez; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
