Prep roundup: Ferriday, Vidalia, Natchez boys fall in district matchups

Ferriday High School suffered its second district loss as the Rayville High School Hornets defeated the Trojans for the second time this season Friday night, 109-69.

Senior Dantrieze Scott led Ferriday (16-11, 9-2) with 16 points, while Montrieze Sandage had 14 and Marquell Griffin added another 13.

The Trojans will be back in action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when they host Beekman Charter.

Mangham 63, Vidalia 62

VIDALIA — Vidalia High School dropped a close game Friday night, falling to Magham, 63-62.

Ray J. Ransom led the efforts for the Vikings with 15 points, while DeMikal McCoy added 12 of his own.

Vidalia will play next at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when it travels to Delhi Charter.

Sicily Island 62, Delta Charter 59

SICILY ISLAND — After a back-and-forth first half between Delta Charter School and Sicily Island High School, the Tigers turned the momentum in their favor in the third quarter as they defeated the Storm 62-59 Friday night in an LHSAA District 2-1A game.

Sicily Island took a 14-12 lead over Delta Charter after one quarter of play, but the Storm responded by outscoring the Tigers 15-10 in the second quarter to go into halftime up, 27-24.

The Tigers answered in a big way by outscoring the Storm 19-12 in the third quarter for a 43-39 advantage. Tyreke Tolliver finished with a game-high 26 points, while Keonte Dunbar followed with 10 points for the Tigers. The Storm was led by Fabiyon Kelly with 18 points and Kavarius Whitehead with 17 points.

Delta Charter (10-21, 3-9) plays host to Delhi High School at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Sicily Island (no records available) plays at Cedar Creek School at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Wingfield 65, Natchez High 56

JACKSON — DeMarrion Arrington and Stephon Thomas scored 23 points each for Wingfield High School as the Falcons defeated the Natchez High School Bulldogs 65-56 Friday night in an MHSAA Region 6-5A game.

Natchez High had three players score in double figures and yet it was not enough for the Bulldogs to rally after being outscored by Wingfield 20-13 in the second quarter, which gave the Falcons a 32-22 halftime lead.

Izzy Holmes Jr. led the Bulldogs with 17 points while Charles Credit added 11 points and James Singleton poured in 10 points.

Natchez High (15-7, 3-3) hosts Amite County for its regular-season finale at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Cathedral 54, Central Private 36

BATON ROUGE — The Cathedral High School Green Wave defeated the Central Private School Rebels 54-36 Friday night in an MAIS District 5-AAA game that took place at Louisiana School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge.

Ty Tobias and J.T. Taylor both scored 17 points to lead the Green Wave. Conner Branton and Colby Passman added eight points apiece.

Cathedral (10-15, 4-1) hosts district and cross-town foe Adams County Christian School at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
