GONZALES, La. — The No. 18 Delta Charter varsity girls soccer team was eliminated from postseason play Monday after falling in the Regional Round of the LHSAA Division IV playoffs at No. 2 Ascension Christian, 8-0.

Lady Storm coach Daniel Rivera said the game was a rough one, but his team gave it all they had.

“All credit goes to them because they were obviously very talented,” he said. “It was a tough game, but I’m very proud of our girls for a really great season. It was a hard fought effort.”

In its second year, Rivera said watching this team mature is something he will never forget. Delta Charter will lose six players to graduation, including Haley Sharp, Peyton Roberson, Darby Beach, Kaelyn Smith, Shelbi McManus and Emily Mason.

“The seniors were a big part in the bonding of our team this season,” Rivera said. “They started something new, and not to just make the playoffs but to make it to the second round shows how hard they worked. To watch them become leaders, it was amazing.”

The Lady Storm ended with a record of 7-12-2.

“We are looking forward to the future of our program,” Rivera said. “We really are making big strides to get where we want to be.”
