Prep roundup: Ferriday, Natchez boys notch victories

Dantrieze Scott scored a game-high 30 points as the Ferriday High School Trojans celebrated senior night with an 84-69 win over the Beekman Charter School Tigers Tuesday night in their regular-season and LHSAA District 2-2A finale.

Marquell Griffin added 17 points and Curtis Collins chipped in with 15 points to lead the Trojans, the No. 9 team in this week’s Class 2A power ratings. They actually trailed Beekman Charter 19-18 after one quarter of play before outscoring the Tigers a combined 38-25 over the next two quarters for a 56-43 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

Ferriday head coach K.G. Watkins said the Trojans (17-11, 10-2) will learn next week which team they will face in the bi-district round of the LHSAA Class 2A playoffs.

Natchez High 58, Amite County 41

NATCHEZ — Izzy Holmes scored 17 points and Taylor Chasley added 14 points as the Natchez High Bulldogs defeated the Amite County High School Trojans 58-41 Tuesday night.

The game was close even though Amite County was held to 13 first-half points. That was until Natchez High sealed the win with a 23-12 edge in the fourth quarter.

Natchez High (16-6) will be the No. 2 seed in next week’s MHSAA Region 6-5A Tournament at Brookhaven High School and take on No. 3 seed Wingfield High School at 5:30 p.m. next Tuesday.

Delhi Charter 54, Vidalia 45

DELHI, La. — Marcellus Crear Jr. led Delhi Charter School with a game-high 19 points as the Gators defeated the Vidalia Vikings 54-45 Tuesday night in an LHSAA District 2-2A game.

The third quarter was the turning point in this game as Delhi Charter turned a four-point lead at halftime into a 13-point lead after outscoring Vidalia 21-12 in the third quarter.

Brandon Vantree scored 13 points and Ray J. Ransom added 11 points to lead the Vikings in scoring. Vidalia (11-12, 5-6) hosts General Trass at 7:30 p.m. Friday for Senior Night as well as its sweetheart court game.

Delhi High 74, Delta Charter 55

FERRIDAY — Kavarius Whithead finished with a game-high 23 points and Fabiyon Kelly added 17 points to lead Delta Charter School, but it was not enough as the Storm lost to the Delhi High School Bears 74-55 in an LHSAA District 2-1A game Tuesday night

Delhi, the No. 2 team in the Class 1A power ratings, jumped out to a 21-9 lead over Delta Charter and never looked back. The Bears were led by Napoleon Nester with 21 points and Quaterious Jones with 16 points.

Delta Charter (10-23, 3-10) hosts Cedar Creek School for Senior Night Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
