The Jefferson County High School Lady Tigers needed a big third quarter to overcome a halftime deficit at home as they defeated the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs 48-39 in an MHSAA Region 7-3A game Friday night.

For senior night, the Lady Tigers had help from Antrell Gales and Kailyn Hammett, as well as junior Dea’breaun Turner in the second half.

Franklin County took a 9-8 lead after one quarter of play and then outscored Jefferson County 11-9 in the second quarter for a 20-17 advantage at the half.

However, the Lady Tigers would respond in a big way by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 13-5 in the momentum-changing third quarter for a 30-25 lead.

Jefferson County made sure that Franklin County would not have an answer of its own in the fourth quarter with an 18-14 advantage. Turner led the Lady Tigers with 13 points while Gales and Hammett had 12 points each.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Autumn Covington with a game-high 18 points, while Jasmine Treadway finished with eight points.

Both teams will back in action next week at the MHSAA Region 7-3A Tournament, which will take place at Port Gibson High School. Franklin County (N/A, 3-5) will be the No. 4 seed. Jefferson County (20-4, 6-2) will be either the No. 1 or No. 2 seed.

Silliman Institute 42, Cathedral 34

NATCHEZ — Led by Ryleigh McManus and Loren Higginbotham, the Silliman Institute Lady Wildcats defeated the Cathedral Lady Green Wave 42-34 on senior night in a non-district game Friday night.

McManus led Silliman with a game-high 15 points and Higginbotham chipped in with 12 points. After trailing 22-16 at halftime, Cathedral got back in the game thanks to a 14-9 advantage in the third quarter to make it a 31-30 game.

Unfortunately, the Lady Wildcats regained their momentum and outscored the Lady Green Wave 11-4 in the fourth quarter. Caroline Kaiser led Cathedral with 13 points and Ryleigh Probst added nine points.

The Lady Green Wave (22-8) will be the No. 2 seed out of MAIS District 5-AAA for next week’s Class AAA South State Tournament, which will be held at Adams County Christian School. It will take on District 4-AAA No. 3 seed Wayne Academy next Wednesday or Thursday at a time to be determined.

Glenmora 34, Monterey 25

MONTEREY — Senior night did not turn out to be a celebratory one for the Monterey High School Lady Wolves as they lost to the Glenmora High School Lady Wildcats 34-25 Friday night.

It was also the LHSAA District 5-B and regular-season finale for both teams.

Monterey (19-11, 2-4) will learn Monday where it will be seeded for the LHSAA Class B State Playoffs as well as its opponent, day and time in the bi-district round.
