MEADVILLE — Services for Lula Ellen Cowart, 95, of Smithdale, who died Thursday, feb. 15, 2018, at Camellia Estates Nursing Home in McComb, will be 3 p.m. today at Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Meadville with the Rev. Matt Emfinger officiating.

Burial will follow at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery in McCall Creek under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Ms. Cowart was born Dec. 23, 1922, the daughter of William Henderson “Doc” Cowart Jr. and Ruby Ray Burris Cowart.

She worked for General Electric in Jackson until her retirement, around 1984. She enjoyed reaching out to help people to fill the needs of other suffering from health problems. She loved to travel and also bake homemade coconut pound cakes to give to her friends.

Ms. Cowart was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Vernell Cowart Smith and Lourine Cowart McGehee; two brothers, Willie Ray Cowart and an infant brother; and one nephew, Oscar Allen Cowart.

Survivors include one sister, Mavis Cowart Young; 13 nieces and nephews, W.H. Cowart, Pollard Cowart, Ella Weeze Cowart Musgrove, Joyce McGehee Williams, Wilda McGehee Temple, Margy McGehee Rushing, Ward McGehee, Gwyn Young, Travis Young, Keith Young, Terry Young, Deron Smith and Alisa Smith Clark; and a number of great, great-great, and great-great-great-nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
