Casino says van struck during high-speed police chase

NATCHEZ — A vehicle reportedly involved in a high-speed chase early Sunday morning reportedly struck a Magnolia Bluffs Casino van carrying patrons and a staff member, according to a statement by the casino.

“The thoughts and prayers of the entire Magnolia Bluffs Casino & Hotel team are with all of the people involved in a traffic accident early Sunday morning. Our van was struck by a vehicle traveling at extremely high rates of speed as it was being chased by the Vidalia Police Dept.,” reads the statement, signed by Magnolia Bluffs Casino President Kevin Preston and CEO Robert Lubin.

The accident occurred on John R. Junkin Road just past the Mississippi River Bridge on the Natchez side, according to VPD police records.

The Vidalia Police Department declined comment citing an ongoing investigation. The identity of the person who allegedly struck the van has not been revealed.

A Mississippi Highway Patrol accident reconstruction officer is leading the investigation of the incident, according to the casino’s statement.

Officials would disclose neither the status of the individuals on board the van nor of the person who struck the van.

“We are extremely thankful to the first responders and everyone involved, as our main concern is for the recovery of our patrons and team member,” the casino said.
