FERRIDAY — Services for Vernon Billy Byrnes, 86, of Natchez, who died Sunday, March 4, 2018, at Merit Health Natchez, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Young’s Funeral Home Ferriday Chapel with the Rev. Ken Ensminger officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday, both at the funeral home.
Mr. Byrnes was born May 6, 1931, in Franklin Parish, the son of Billy H. Byrnes and Frances Prudhomme Byrnes.
He worked in the oil field for more than 45 years and retired as a driller and tool pusher for PSI and Costal Service. He loved camping, raising cattle and going to thrift stores — but, his true love was his family.
Mr. Byrnes was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lee T. Byrnes, George Byrnes and Buddy Byrnes; one sister, Marie Whittington; and one daughter-in-law, Vicki Crooks Byrnes.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Margie Herron Byrnes; two sons, Billy Byrnes and wife, Linda, and Bobby Byrnes, all of Vidalia; one sister, Gloria Nell Polk of Winnsboro, La.; one grandson, Josh Byrnes; four granddaughters, Summer McJimsey and husband, Brian, Tina Taliaferro and husband, Trey, Rhonda Anglin and Caitlin Byrnes; 10 great-grandchildren, Zach, Trey, Brittany, Kensley, Amber, Brad, Tabatha, Colby, Brandon and Landon; four great-great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Hazel Grace, Eli and Elijah; two very special neighbors, Frankie Case and Denise Case; and a number of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Zach Riddick, Trey Riddick, Josh Byrnes, Landon Thompson, Brandon Thompson and Jim Whittington.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bo Nettles, Tommy Breithaupt and Brian McJimsey.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Paws for a Cause, 110 Shields Lane, Natchez, MS 39120 or to a charity of choice.
