NATCHEZ — For a little more than a year, Rebecca Caldwell has been on a mission to become fitter — physically and spiritually; and she has been sharing that passion with others through her organization, Revelation Wellness — The Battleground.
The Wellness Revelation study and the fitness classes are both offered through her church, Crossbridge Church in Ferriday. She also offers the fitness classes in Sicily Island at The Rink. The study group currently meets at 7 p.m. Friday evenings. Future sessions will be determined at a later time.
Caldwell, a Revelation Wellness Instructor, also holds a certification as a facilitator for the Wellness Revelation.
The idea for this came to Caldwell a few years ago when she began to think about faith and health being connected. She believes that people are better able to serve God, and others, better when they feel good and have good health.
“I was initially unsure about what kind of response I would get,” Caldwell said. “When I put the invitation out there and told people what the study was about, there was a really great response and I started my first group in February.”
Caldwell received the fitness certification in 2016 and after discussing the idea with the pastors of her church, she began teaching in January 2017.
The study classes involved weekly assignments.
“The Bible study and small group questions are designed to help you love God, get healthy and spread the Gospel with courage, confidence and kindness,” Caldwell said. “At our weekly meetings, we talk about what we hope to accomplish; we set goals and share out struggles and victories. We go through the small group questions and share our stories. We pray for one another and encourage one another as we journey toward freedom together.”
The fitness classes are opened with scripture and are a combination of cardio, strength and stretch.
“I incorporate scripture throughout the class,” Caldwell said. “I want our heart and mind to focus on the scripture as we move as one. It is my desire for anyone coming to my class to get a whole workout: mind, body and heart.”
Caldwell said she hopes to continue doing both classes.
“If people are willing to go through the journey of the study, I am willing to facilitate,” Caldwell said. “I love teaching and moving together in group fitness. I am working to get my personal trainer’s certificate so I can work with people who want or need one-on-one coaching or who just aren’t into group fitness.”
Caldwell said she hopes people will experience freedom and wholeness from their participation.
“We all have different things that we struggle with,” Caldwell said. “I want to get to the root cause of what is keeping us from living the life God has called us to; a life of freedom and wholeness, so we can live confidently knowing our worth and identity is found in Christ.”
Each nine-week session of the Wellness Revelation Study is $40. Costs for the fitness classes vary depending on attendance and location.
