VIDALIA — Funeral services for Charles Samuel Martien, 90, of Natchez, who died Thursday, March 08, 2018 at Merit Health Natchez, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Young’s Funeral Home in Vidalia with Rev. Richard Cullum officiating.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Natchez National Cemetery, under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of service at Young’s Funeral Home in Vidalia.
Mr. Martien was born on Tuesday, May 24, 1927, in Louisiana, the son of Norman Hopkins Martien, Sr. and Mabel Rowan Martien.
He was a resident of Natchez and a member of First Baptist Church- Natchez. He was enlisted in the United States Army and served during World War II. Mr. Martien dedicated many years working for Chevron Oil Company. After his retirement, he spent his time farming on Lake St. John. He also was a member of the 1943 Waterproof High School State Champions Football Team.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Norman Hopkins Martien, Jr. and Edgar Rowan Martien.
He is survived by his three daughters: Rebecca Martien Mayer and husband Bill of Vidalia; Deborah Martien Fisher and husband Terry of Natchez; Nancy Martien Parker of Vernon, Ala.; six grandchildren: Ashley Wiggins and husband Evan; Brigette Merkel and husband Ryan; J.J. Rabb and husband Bryan; Brandon Mayer and wife Laura; Nikki Burton and husband Major; and Vicki Yearta as well as 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
