NASHVILLE — One of the three companies involved in the design of the Miami pedestrian bridge that collapsed Thursday, helped design the Natchez Traceway Parkway bridge on the north end of the parkway.

FIGG Bridge Group — one of the three design and engineering firms for the Florida International University pedestrian bridge — helped design the popular Natchez Trace Arches, WZTV in Nashville reports.

The popular bridge has become a Natchez Trace icon and highly photographed attraction on the north end of the Trace.

The double-arch bridge was completed in 1993. It is 1,572 feet long and carries the Trace over Tennessee 96 near Franklin, Tenn. The FIGG website said the bridge has won 16 awards, including the 1995 Presidential Design Award.

As of Friday, six deaths have been contributed to the bridge collapse in Miami. Police says the number of fatalities could climb as the search continues for more victims. The cause of the bridge collapse remains under investigation.
