FAYETTE — Services for James Sanders, 82, of Fayette, who died Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Promise Hospital in Vidalia, will be noon Saturday at Hollywood Baptist Church in Fayette with the Rev. Johnny Irving officiating.
Burial will follow at Hickory Block United Methodist Church Cemetery in Union Church under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home-Fayette Branch.
Visitation will be from 5 to 5:30 p.m. today with a celebration of life wake service at 5:30 p.m. at the Natchez branch.
Visitation will continue Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time at the church.
Mr. Sanders was born Feb. 5, 1936, in Jefferson County, the son of Bunion Sanders and Mary Bailey Fleming.
He was retired from Illinois Central Railroad and Jefferson County Transportation. Mr. Sanders was a member of Hickory Block United Methodist Church where he served as a deacon. His hobbies were farming and taking care of his horses, goats and dogs.
Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Wolfe Sanders; his parents; two sons, Victor Sanders and Virgil Sanders; one daughter, Edna Ruth Sanders; one sister, Dorothy Clark; and three brothers, Ray L. Williams, C.W. Fleming and David Fleming.
Survivors include six sons, Calvin Winston and wife, Edna, James Sanders and wife, Deborah, Vernon Sanders and wife, Michelle, Voltaire Sanders and wife, Angela, Vernell Sanders and Dorian Sanders; five daughters, Vera Clark, Vivian Cole, Mary Vernice Sproulls and husband, Willie, Velma Sanders and Valerie Sanders; two brothers, Johnny Fleming and Alex Fleming; six sisters, Lillie Good, Essie Lee Johnson, Ruby Brinkley and husband, Otis, Dorothy Ellis, Johnnie B. Sanders and Diane Laglin; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
