NATCHEZ — Services for James Perry Proby, 71, of Natchez, who died Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Merit Health Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bright Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. Michelle Brooks officiating.    

Burial will follow at Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Proby was born Nov. 12, 1946, in Natchez, the son of Woodrow Wilson Proby and Luberta Brady.

He was employed by Prentiss Inn Motel and was retired.

Mr. Proby enjoyed playing the guitar.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Jeanette Proby.

Survivors include one son, James Proby; one daughter, Lawanda Jones; three sisters, Dorothy Mae Smith, Phyllis Hawkins and husband, Dewayne, and Elizabeth Proby; one brother, Woodrow Proby and wife, Quantina; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
