FERRIDAY — Services for Herman C. Hootsell, 89, of Vidalia, who died Tuesday, April 3, 2018, in Jackson, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Crossbridge Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Vincent Smith officiating.
Burial will follow at New Pine Hill Cemetery in Leland, La., under the direction of Comer Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Hootsell was born Aug. 22, 1928, the son of Jack and Carrie Hootsell.
He was a member of Crossbridge Church, formerly Ferriday Church of God. He was a Korean War veteran and a retiree from the City of Vidalia, but his legacy lives on through his ministry. He was a song writer and a writer and distributor of religious tracks. He was a loving soul who never met a stranger — cared for other fiercely and spent his life sharing the good news of Christ. He will surely be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Hootsell was preceded in death by his loving wife, Grace Evelyn Hootsell; his parents; one son, Charles Randy Hootsell; and one brother, Lonnie Hootsell.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathy Marler and husband, Lewis, of Woodworth, La., Leisa Morace and husband, Robert, of Branson, Mo., and Kim Petermann and husband, John, of Madison; two sons, Tommy Hootsell of Natchez and Jeffery Hootsell of Vidalia; six grandchildren, Eric Marler, Dana Marler, Somer Morace, Bethany Mecke, Cameron Petermann and J.P. Petermann III; and four great-grandchildren, Tristan Dean Mecke, Haven Elizabeth Bennett, Caiden Bazar and Cody Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Lewis Marler, Robert Morace, John Petermann III.
