FAYETTE — Services for Abraham Bennett Harris Sr., 89, of Fayette, who died Thursday, May 17, 2018, will be 11 a.m. today at East Mount Olive Baptist Church in Lorman with the Rev. Tracy Collins officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home-Fayette Branch.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.
Mr. Harris was born March 30, 1929, in Red Lick, the son of Dailey Harris Sr. and Elvira Green Harris.
He was educated at Red Lick School, Jefferson County Training School, Port Gibson High School and Alcorn State University.
Mr. Harris was retired from the U.S. Army and Alcorn State University. He also served as a deacon at East Mount Olive Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Wilson Harris Sr., Dailey Harris Jr., Wallace Harris, Nathaniel Harris and Ulyses Harris; and two sisters, Kazetta Watts and Sophia Rankins.
Survivors include his wife, Hattie Bingham Harris; five sons, Abraham Harris Jr., Charles Harris, Ray Harris, Stephen Harris and Patrick Harris; three daughters, Audrey Harris Rash, Paula Harris Merchant and Rachel Harris McCray; one sister, Elzena Magee; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
