VIDALIA — Deputies responding to a reported stabbing Sunday met an agitated Jonesville woman brandishing a samurai sword in her front yard.

Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy David Hedrick said officers met Sonya Irene Robertson, who attempted to attack the men with the sword.

Hedrick said the woman told officers, “You’re going to have to kill me,” and used several expletives while talking with the deputies before throwing the sword down and ripping off her shirt.

Robertson then retreated back to the house, with deputies in pursuit. Hedrick said deputies tried to calm the woman down, but they eventually resorted to using a stun gun.

Hedrick said Robertson then grabbed a cord on the TV, put it in her mouth and began growling at deputies, all while attempting to pull the hooks from the stun gun out of her skin.

After finally subduing the woman, Hedrick said the deputies found her boyfriend, who had suffered two to three stab wounds approximately 2 inches deep.

“We don’t think she stabbed him with the sword,” Hedrick said. “The cuts weren’t deep enough for that.”

Hedrick said deputies found a bloody pocketknife with a shorter blade in her possession.

Deputies arrested Robertson, 36, 200 Fisherman Point, Jonesville, on charges of aggravated second degree battery, resisting an officer, battery on a police officer, simple criminal damage to property and disturbing the peace.

Whether Robertson was under the influence of a controlled substance is not yet known, Hedrick said.

“I want to commend my deputies for composing themselves,” Hedrick said. “When she brandished that samurai sword and said ‘You’re going to have to kill me,’ it took a lot of strength to compose themselves.”

As of Wednesday evening, Robertson was being held in the Concordia Parish Correctional Facility on a $3,994 bond.
