NATCHEZ — An Adams County man was indicted this week after allegedly shooting at his sister’s boyfriend and stealing the man’s car in late 2017.

Karl Thomas Ellis Jr., 22, 17 Campbell Road, was indicted on charges of aggravated assault and grand larceny Tuesday, stemming from incidents in July and November 2017.

In July 2017, Adams County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Cal Green said Ellis took his sister’s boyfriend’s car — a 1985 Monte Carlo — without permission from the family.

The boyfriend of Ellis’ sister, Ytarius Goldserry, had asked Ellis’ father to repair the car while he was out of town, but Green said the car went missing.

Deputies located the vehicle in the parking lot of the Red Carpet Inn on D’Evereux Drive, several miles from where it was last seen.

Green said witnesses and family members reported that Ellis had taken the vehicle.

Several months later, in October 2017, Goldsberry again asked Ellis’ father to repair the car, she said.

This time, however, Green said Ellis was at the residence when Goldsberry came to get his vehicle.

Ellis allegedly went to his car, pulled out a gun and began firing at Goldsberry, Green said.

Goldsberry was not injured in the gunfire, but Green said several bullets hit the vehicle.

Ellis was released without bond Tuesday from the Adams County Jail, but is scheduled to appear in court again on July 31.
