Boil water notice issued for University of Mississippi

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — The University of Mississippi, and anyone who receives water from the school, is under a boil water order.
The Oxford Eagle reports the Mississippi Department of Health issued the notice about 1 p.m. Friday after it found E. Coli bacteria in a water sample. As a result, authorities recommend that any water being used for drinking, cooking or bathing be boiled for at least one minute before consumption.
Health officials said in a news release that the presence of bacteria in the water supply is usually due to a problem with the water treatment process or pipes that distribute the water.
No timeline has been given for when the notice might be lifted.
The department recommends that any drinks, ice or food made during the boil water notice be discarded.
