NATCHEZ — Three of four suspects charged in the Sunday drive-by shooting murder of a pregnant teenager and her unborn child were being held with no bond Tuesday and the fourth suspect was being held in custody on a $1.4 million bond.
The three suspects who were held without bond after a Tuesday municipal court proceeding are Montreal Rashawn Brown, 17, Curtavius Dantrell Knight, 19, and Nicholas J. McGrew, 21. Carianta Davion Allen, 17, who turned himself in to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office on Monday night, has a $1.4 million bond.
All face charges of aggravated assault, murder and murder of an unborn child.
“They will not be getting out,” said Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong of the three suspects with no bond, “and Allen will not be getting out unless he can come up with $1.4 million.”
The victim, Shakerria King, 17, was gunned down Sunday and an autopsy later revealed she was pregnant.
Natchez Police Department and the Adams County Sheriff Office collaborated to identify the suspects, arrest and charge them within hours of the incident.
Both Armstrong and Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten have said investigation has led officers to believe Sunday’s incident was in retaliation for the July 8 killing of Martez Brown, which in turn was believed to be in retaliation for an incident involving Brown in May 2017.
Patten and Armstrong have called for the community pull together to stop the violence.
