FERRIDAY — Services for Beatrice Brown Heard, 78, of Ferriday, who died at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, La., following a brief illness, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Word of Faith Ambassador Outreach Church in Ferriday with the Rev. T.A. Baker Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow at the Ferriday Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Evening Star Baptist Church in Ferriday.
Mrs. Heard was born in Ferriday, the daughter of Shep and Sarah Gordon Bethley.
She was a retired custodian for the Concordia Parish Police Jury and a volunteer for the Concordia Parish Council on Aging Inc., at the Ferriday site.
Heard was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, the Rev. Shep Bethley Jr., Frank Brown, James Bethley and Roosevelt Brown; and one sister, Marlee Marshall.
Survivors include her husband, Luke “Sonny” Heard Jr.; six children, Otis C. Brown and wife, Monique, of Anaheim, Calif., Herman Dorsey Jr. of New Orleans; Doyle L. Brown of Baton Rouge, Debra M. Spurs and husband, Elbert “Moody,” Angela Maxine Smith and husband, Nathaniel, all of Ferriday, and Antoinette B. Tennessee and husband, Marvin, of Vidalia; two stepchildren, Kenny Dorsey and Kawanna Dorsey, both of Atlanta; two sisters, Leatrice Allen and husband, Bobby, and Hattie Ruth Bethley, all of Ferriday; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Mahaffy and Mattie Evans, both of Kenner, La.; one brother-in-law, Benny Hurd and wife, Joyce, of New Orleans; 30 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and the entire U-Pack crew.
