NATCHEZ — The Natchez-Adams School District will have its opening convocation for faculty and staff members Monday morning to kick-off the new school year.
Students will have their first day of school — or first day back to school — on Tuesday, and NASD personnel are getting ready with motivational speakers and award presentations starting at 9 a.m. Monday in the Natchez Convention Center.
“All of the new principals and staff members will be introduced,” said Interim Public Relations Coordinator, Ernest “Tony” Fields. “This is a big kickoff for all staff members to get ready for the new school year.”
Special guest speaker and Natchez High School alumnus from the class of 1992, Al J. Thompson, will act as a keynote speaker and NASD Superintendent Fred Butcher will speak.
Fields said awards also would be given to commend the excellent work of faculty and parents from the previous school year.
More motivational speakers include the Parent of the Year, Paula Morris; the Administrator of the Year, Shamekia Isacc; and the Teacher of the Year, Geraldine Brown.
Fields said students are getting into the back-to-school spirit as well, as NHS cheerleaders and the Gold and Bluez dance team will showcase their performance routines.
