VIDALIA — The Concordia Parish School Board unanimously approved the district’s 2018-2019 fiscal year budget Thursday following a budget hearing that same evening.
The budget will not carry a tax increase, said Tom O’Neal, the boards director of business affairs.
The operating budget for the 2018-2019 fiscal year shows an overall projected revenue of $43,189,103 and expenditures of $45,720,342, leaving a deficit of $2,389,645.
The director of business affairs for the board, Tom O’Neal, said the deficit reflects capital outlay projects that may or may not be executed in the 2019 fiscal year, which means approximately $690,000 of the deficit is a flexible expenditure and subject to change.
The board has a fund balance of $26,717,260, which may offset the deficit as well.
Some of the more expensive capital outlay projects include adding a new wing to the Concordia Parish Academy and replacing a flat roof at Concordia Education Center, O’Neal said.
The roofs alone could cost the district $250,000, and O’Neal said.
The board expects to receive total ad valorem tax revenue of $5,671,027 and total sales tax revenue of $4,905,000 in the 2019 fiscal year and O’Neal said the requested tax effort has not changed from the 2018 fiscal year.
No concerns were voiced from attendees of the budget hearing Thursday evening.
